We’re breaking with our usual schedule to take a moment to congratulate one of Forward’s contributors, Tyrese Coleman. Tyrese’s first book, How To Sit, came out from Mason Jar Press last year.
How To Sit mixes genres shifting between short story and fiction. The book gives an intricate portrait of a black woman dealing with complicated relationships—family, romantic, unwanted, and with herself as she’s changing and growing. The writing is exciting and fresh and willing to let a reader (this was not meant to be a pun) sit in the complications of feelings and situations. If this makes you want to buy it, you can find it here.
Today, it was announced that How To Sit has made the PEN Open book shortlist! Congratulations, Tyrese!
PS. If you’re a Forward contributor, you can always tell us all the cool things you did, so we can brag about you like we’re bragging about Tyrese. Just e-mail us!
