"My moma burned all dem white dolls out in da backyard and gave Miracle a doll dark as me."
Monterica Sade Neil reads; we brag some more; we invite you to celebrate with us; pre-orders continue
Let us introduce you to another Forward contributor. Monterica Sade Neil is a medium, a queer, Black creative, a Tin House Scholar, and third-year MFA candidate at Louisiana State University. She received her undergraduate degree in Creative Writing from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and is from Memphis, TN. She is currently at work on a memoir.
“Craving Sugar” is lyrical, rhythmic. It’s a story told from a child’s perspective, the things that are important to adults all happen at the margins, so you have to pay attention or you’ll be carried away by the voice, the descriptions. The child at the story’s center, she has other concerns that are just as important as your adult concerns. And Monterica is an incredible reader. Listen here.
And if you want to read this story, the only place this story is available is in Forward. Still $15, still free shipping in the United States, still only available for pre-order from Aforementioned Productions.
